My very first tea blend

Firepot Chai was my very first tea blend and it is the tea that accidentally led me to tea in 2001. It is based on an authentic Chai* recipe from the Himalayan Mountains.  It is so lively and delicious because I hand grind the spices before blending them with tea. This is a labor of love and now this tea has developed its own little following so I can’t stop making it, as I have heard that noone can find anything quite like it – except at a little Chai stall in India.

The Chais

* Chai means tea in India and “Masala” means spice. So, when we say “masala chai”, we are talking about spiced tea, usually made with a variation of a number of sweet tropical spices like cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, etc…  In India, they serve their tea sweet with spices and milk, so that is what we think of when we say “Chai– a sweet, spiced tea with milk.

**Firepot Masala: Organic cinnamon, coriander, cardamom, ginger, black pepper and cloves.
***Rooibos: An evergreen shrub that is native to the Cedarburg Wilderness area in South Africa. There, it is traditionally known to “preserve the youth and gladden the heart”! Naturally caffeine free, it is full of anti oxidants, vitamins and minerals and it tastes great. It is naturally sweet and honey like with nutty undertones and with no bitterness at all.

Shelf life: I know, a pound seems like a lot of tea, but people always seem to get through it within the “1 year shelf life for maximum quality”.   A pound will make between 160 and 250 cups of Chai.
